Kataline had all the school things that she needed. Everything. Absolutely everything. She had bought it all before the school had started. But she had waited for this chance. She was going to buy a pet. She was going to buy it without her parents permission. And somehow, she was going to make it work.
"One kitten. Surprise me on the type," the girl said in her low, french accent. Kataline placed five dollars on the counter. She was about to just leave it at that, when she looked over into a cage. Inside of it was a long, slinky thing. She had seen it in portraits of late queens and princesses from France before. It had looked so much uglier in those portraits.
Spinning around, she said to the cashier. "And one of those things... whatever they are," she said with a grin as she placed ten more dollars on the counter. "Emmmm... I'd like the white one," she said, pointing to the cage that contained the ferrets that she was so curious about. "Oh, and I'd like a cage for it as well. And what is it called? I'd like to know, just to be safe," she said, pushing some of her sleek silver-blonde hair behind an ear.

Cori Wednesday Johnson strolled into Cornivoris shoppe for the second time that week. She had completely forgotten about most of her things and her mom and dad wouldn't have time to drop it off for her. They gave her enough money to buy some new clothes and things as she prepared for winter.

She happened to be going buy the pet section when she heard a voice. It wasn't a familiar one that would come from her friends. No. It was probably a new student that was going to Poisoned Ink. Cori tried to ignore the demanding voice at first but couldn't resist to answer her question about on of the pets in the shoppe. "It's a ferret." she said turning her body to face the girl. Farrets were adorable creatures but the only problem with Cori having a cat was that they might chase each other around the school. And it wasn't a good idea when it came to that. "I just hope that you have luck with having a cat and all." she said with a sigh.
Cori was there to buy clothes and only clothes. She wanted so badly to get another pet but her parents refused to give into her constant complaining and begging. She watched the girl with a raised brow to see what she might say.

Katty turned at the voice, to see short, pale young girl. Her expression softened when she saw just how young she was. The girl looked to be about 10, 11 or 12. She remembered that she barely spoke english when she was that young. She didn't speak it at all when she was ten, at least. She pulled her silver-blond hair behind an ear daintily.
"Ferret? Thank you. My name is Kataline Margaurite Danielle DeBue. Katty, my friends here call me," she said. "What's your name?" she asked her. She looked back, and saw the shop-owner filling her order. She smiled patiently. Katty had learned to be polite when she was in France, but her patience was part of her dainty, lady-like nature.
When she saw the black kitten on the counter, she almost flipped. "She is adorable! It's a girl, right?" she said, realizing that she was still unsure of the gender. The shop owner nodded, and Katty grinned. She watched as a silver-furred ferret inside of a cage was laid on the counter as well. The kitten looked at it with it's curious big eyes. "How old is the kitten? And the ferret?" she said. "Eight weeks for the ferret, nine for the cat," the shop owner replied. "Thank you," she said with a dainty little slip of a curtsy.

Cori watched the girl turn around to face her. She raised a brow at the girl’s extremely long name. “I’m Cori Wednesday Johnson. You can call me Wednesday though.” She hated it when people would call her by her first name. It sounded too boyish. Her mother had a fetish with the middle names being a day of the week. Her sister’s middle name happened to be Tuesday.
"She is adorable! It's a girl, right? How old is the kitten? And the ferret?"
Cori listened to Kataline flip out over the kitten. She could remember when she got her black cat the past year. She loved him to death. He had grown a lot since then. When she heard the clerk say that the cat was on nine weeks old she just had to let her guard down, “Aww…” she sighed. Cori really wanted another cat and being there looking at them wasn’t helping. “So what are you going to name her?” she asked out of curiousity.

"Wednesday... like the day of the week?" she said, unsure whether she had heard correctly. "Well, it's a beautiful name anyway," she said to avoid any conflict that her first comment could have brought. "Cori is a pretty name also," she said. "But don't worry. I will call you Wednesday," she she said, and a giggle slipped out. Grinning for almost no reason except for the fact that the girl was so young and cute, Katty said, "Don't forget not to call me Kataline. Katty."
"Aww.... So what are you going to name her?”
"Oh, I don't know. Maybe Selina. Did you know that it means Moon in my language?" she said with a smile that soon slipped into nestalgia. "And I'm not so sure about the ferret. Maybe Celeste. That means heavenly," she said. "Or Mignon, meaning dainty, or Belle, beautiful," she continued. "I don't know many English names, even though I have lived here for four years," she said with a blush. "I think I'll name her Celeste. That way they both have names from astronomy," she said with a little giggle. "Celeste and Selina," she said, feeling the names roll off her tongue. She itched to speak in french again. She wanted to talk and talk and talk, without letting anybody stop her. She sighed, and pushed her silver hair behind an ear.

“Wednesday... like the day of the week? Well, it's a beautiful name anyway. Cori is a pretty name also. But don't worry. I will call you Wednesday. Don't forget not to call me Kataline. Katty."
Cori nodded in agreement. “Yes, like the day of the week.” She wasn’t mad about it. She always had people ask her why she would rather be called that and not Cori. “But you see Cori sounds too boyish and Wednesday just kind of describes me, I guess.” she said laughing a little. Cori never planned on forgetting the older girl’s name. “Kataline or Katty. I got it.” she stated. Was this girl on something. Cori was not a pretty name. She didn’t know why her parents gave her and her sister boys names in the first place. She shrugged it off and didn’t even bother worrying about it.
"Oh, I don't know. Maybe Selina. Did you know that it means Moon in my language? And I'm not so sure about the ferret. Maybe Celeste. That means heavenly. Cori’s eyes widened as Kataline started saying what names meant. “Where do you come from again?” she asked still wide eyed. She raised a brow as she kept going about how she didn’t know many English names. Cori remembered naming her cat, Tiger. The name fitted him perfectly. He always looked like he was stalking his prey, like a tiger. “I think Celeste and Selina are perfect names for your ferret and kitten.” she nodded. Cori looked at the kitten. She reminded her of Tiger in some ways, with the smallness and adventurous side to it.

"I come from France," she said with a polite smile. "And thank you," she said. "I am pleased with the names as well. Em... where do you come from?" she asked, trying to make conversation. Really, she wanted to leave, to go to school. She wanted to show Celeste and Selina their new home. She was only making conversation to be polite, the way that she was brought up.

Cori nodded to her new friends thank you. She had no idea that Kataline came from France. It didn't sound like she did half the time. She guessed that the girl had an accent somewhere when she spoke. "I'm from Wales, but my parents decided to move here when I was eight." she explained. Cori didn't mind the move too much. Back in Wales she had no friends and nothing excited her. "So," she paused, "What year are you going to be in this year?" she asked trying to make some small talk.

"I'm from Wales, but my parents decided to move here when I was eight. So.... What year are you going to be in this year?"
"Wales... that's interesting. It's near England, right?" Katty said, as she held the cardboard box that held Selina in one hand, and the cage that held Celeste in the other. She saw Selina sticking her head out through the fist-sized hole in the side of the box, the eyes that were far too big for her face, bouncing in complete curiousity at the people walking up and down the street just outside of the door.
"I'm going to be a fourth year. And I'll FINALLY be a prefect," she said, letting a proud grin dance across her lips. "How about you?" she asked Wednesday. Though she still wanted to leave for Poisoned Ink, she was becoming engrossed in the two of their conversation.

Cori nodded her head signaling that was a yes. “Mmmhmm..” she stated. Besides the fact that she had no friends, Wales was a very peaceful place to live, but she was excited to be back at Poisoned Ink. She knew that this year would be a bit different since she knew her way around everything and knew how to get everywhere. She looked down at the box that held Kataline’s new pet. It had it’s head sticking out of one of the holes that were meant for air to come through. Cori giggled at the sight of it.
"I'm going to be a fourth year. And I'll FINALLY be a prefect. How about you?”
She nodded again. “Well, I hope that I never get in trouble…A prefect is a big responsibility.” she stated. It was true. She knew everything that the prefects had to do. They had to make sure that the students weren’t wandering the halls after they were supposed to be in their rooms and such. “I’m going to be a second year this year.” she said. “I can’t tell if it’s going to be fun or not though.” she explained. Cori didn’t know what happened in the second year at Poisoned Ink. She hoped that it was going to be exciting.
